Toughest Detectable Warnings

What are the toughest detectable warnings? Some might say, Armor-Tile because of its high compressive strengths and abrasion resistance. Others might say, some sort of cast iron paver. The truth is, Advantage Tactile Systems has them all beat. Advantage is the only light weight, easily installed system that combines impeccable impact resistance, tensile strengths and horizontal shear, and incorporates a tenaciously bonded color coating.

The truncated domes are made of 16 gauge stainless steel and can understandably resist side impacts and crushing forces. Add to the strength of the steel concrete reinforcement obtained during the tile’s installation in fresh concrete and you’ve got the toughest detectable warnings tactile, an almost impenetrable dome and field area – impenetrable, at least, to nearly anything a curb ramp will encounter throughout the course of its life.

One question remains, however. That is, what happens to the surface coating while the steel is resisting all of these forces? Advantage’s Duro-Grip coating adheres so well to the steel that even if something were capable of scratching the coating down to the steel, that’s where it would end, providing the toughest detectable warnings. There is no migration of the coating even under extreme weather conditions. Besides, the coating is quite abrasion resistant so it would take concentrated effort to cut through the coating so as to expose any steel.
